Black Desert Bartering After the September 23 Patch (2026): What Skipping the Dock Actually Saves, and Which Ship to Sail
The official patch title for September 23 reads "Ship and Barter Convenience Improvements." Sounds big. In practice it does one thing: it makes you get off the ship less often.
That one thing already makes a real difference if you barter. Before, every island meant jumping off the ship, running to find the Wharf Manager, storing the ship, retrieving it, then jumping back on. Now you just stop nearby and it's all handled from the deck.
It also has rough edges, and Reddit players aren't shy about pointing them out. And with yellow-gear Falasi landing in late August, the answer to "which ship should you barter on" has shifted too.
TL;DR
| Your situation | What to do |
|---|---|
| AFK bartering (ship sails while you do something else) | Keep running Advance — this patch just saves you the per-stop disembark time, it doesn't add income |
| Active bartering, chasing more loops per day | Start considering Volante + Falasi — that's where the community's heading |
| You're on Balance | Community consensus: stop picking it as your bartering ship |
| No Carrack yet | Build Advance first — everything else is a second-ship problem |
| Loading weight looks off when you load cargo | 9/23 fixed a bug where the item description miscalculated weight during loading — old numbers you saw may have been wrong |
One line: this patch saves you operating time, not parley, not loading capacity. What actually changed how bartering works is yellow gear.
Where This Data Comes From
Everything about the patch itself comes from the official September 23 patch notes — this article uses the feature names exactly as the patch notes write them. Yellow-gear loading capacity comes from the official August 27 patch notes.
Player impressions, navigation testing, and the 30-day playtime numbers all come from r/blackdesertonline threads from September (linked at each mention). These are community reports, not official figures, and most of the players quoted are on NA/EU or other international servers — your mileage may vary by region.
1. What September 23 Actually Changed
Remote wharf access: while riding a large ship, stopped near a Wharf Manager, you no longer have to disembark to:
- Talk to NPCs, accept and complete quests
- Buy and sell at shops
- Repair your mount's gear and durability
- Use wharf functions: Repair and Supply, Manage Sailors, Load Cargo
But storing your ship, remote retrieval, and pure conversation/socializing still require getting off.
Other changes:
- Repair and Supply at the Wharf Manager are now one combined button
- You can now sell storage items directly from the Load Cargo menu
- Barter Information now shows distance, so you can see how far each trade route actually is
- The Barter Information window has a new "Nearby Town/Wharf" button, so you don't need to open the world map to find your position
- Ship navigation routing improved — auto-run (the T key) gets caught on terrain less often
- Fixed the bug where the inventory item description miscalculated weight when loading cargo onto a ship
That last one barely gets mentioned, but if you barter, it matters: the weight number you saw on the cargo screen before this patch may have been wrong. If you've ever done the math and still ended up overweight, it might not have been your math that was off.
2. What You Actually Save: Listen to the Complaints Too
The day before the patch landed, someone on r/blackdesertonline posted cheering that "PA actually did something this time", saying no longer having to get off to accept quests, resupply, or load cargo made things a lot smoother.
Someone in another thread put a number on it: what used to be "get off, find the NPC, store and retrieve the ship, get back on" — one or two minutes — is now two to five seconds, and you can sell straight from Olvia now too. Run a dozen-plus islands a day and those minutes add up.
But the same thread also lists what still isn't fixed:
- Repair and Supply are one button now, but ship gear still has to be repaired piece by piece
- You can sell cargo from the ship now, but you have to move the trade goods into storage or your inventory first — you can't sell them directly
- Storing and retrieving your ship used to turn the bow around for you; staying aboard means you've lost that quick-turnaround trick
The original poster's take is on point: it's rare that they actually fix something, and they still missed a pile of small details. Some replies pushed back, saying it's just an extra click or two and not worth complaining about.
One more thing: the distance markers got called a big deal, but a player pointed out that Barter Information could already sort by distance — this patch just puts the number on screen. If you already knew about that sort option, it changes nothing.
💬 My take: I'd give this patch a passing grade, not a great one. It fixes the single most annoying thing — disembarking at every stop — so runs genuinely feel smoother. But "ship gear still needs piece-by-piece repair" and "cargo sales need a storage detour first" are exactly the kind of details QA must have flagged and nobody bothered to fix.
3. Navigation: Genuinely Smoother, But Don't Expect Miracles
One player screenshotted the three longest T7 routes out of Iliya Island, before and after the patch, for comparison. On the map, the routes still zigzag through the same sharp turns. In practice, though, the turns get smoothed out and there's a lot less slowing down.
Another player reported that the route from Hakoven Island to Epheria now routes around Edania instead of ramming straight into it. The Hakoven Island to Sanctuary route also runs a bit faster.
These are all individual players' impressions — nobody's published formal timing. Setting auto-navigation to "fast + smooth" is the most common tip in these reports.
4. One Player's Real 30-Day Numbers
On September 12, a player posted a "30 days of bartering" write-up — the single most useful first-hand data point this month:
- What they ran: every 5→6→7 chain, every 4→5 chain; kept T2–T4 goods stocked above 90 and T1 above 20
- Time per refresh cycle: averaged 6.5 to 7 hours; on a good run with full attention, under two hours; on a bad run with frequent AFK breaks, up to 8 hours
- How they ran it: half-AFK. Point the ship down a straight line, adjust course on arrival. Their favorite routes were around the Land of the Morning Light, because you can sail in a straight line the whole way from Iliya Island to Dallae Pier
- Parley: burned roughly 1 to 1.25 million per refresh cycle
- Income: commenters worked it out to roughly 9B over 7 hours
One comment summed it up: "a bit over 100M an hour isn't amazing, but 9B while half-AFK is already really good."
These numbers were run before the September 23 patch. In theory, the per-stop time this patch saves should shave a bit off that 6.5–7 hour window, but nobody's published data on exactly how much yet.
5. Which Ship to Sail — The Answer Has Changed
In the Carrack + Bartering Complete Guide, I wrote that Advance is simply the bartering pick. For AFK bartering, that's still true. But now that yellow-gear Falasi exists, there's another path.
The official patch notes list the full +10 equipped loading capacity:
| Ship | +10 Chiro | +10 Falasi | Falasi Speed |
|---|---|---|---|
| Advance | 8,000 LT | 10,500 LT | 23% |
| Balance | 6,000 LT | 8,500 LT | 23.5% |
| Volante | 5,500 LT | 7,500 LT | 28% |
| Valor | 5,500 LT | 7,500 LT | 25% |
Swap +10 Falasi onto Volante and you're at 7,500 LT — already close to +10 Chiro on Advance (8,000 LT) — but at 28% speed versus 20%.
On September 24, someone asked on Reddit "is Balance still a decent bartering ship?" and the replies were nearly unanimous:
- Before yellow gear, Balance really was a bit faster than Advance and carried enough, if you had the cash-shop setup: full blue gear, plus a parrot, a ship skin, and a weight crystal
- Now that yellow gear exists, Volante can do the same job, and does it a lot faster
- The consensus has settled into: AFK bartering, run Advance; active bartering, run Volante; don't bother with Balance
Some added that +8 Falasi cannons and plating on Volante or Valor, plus a ship skin and a red weight crystal, is already enough to clear a full T6/T7 route.
Earlier, on August 30, someone else asked whether buying Balance instead of Advance would be a mistake. The most useful answer: trade-good weight rounds to whole units, so that 1,500 LT gap is the difference between fitting a full 10-piece T7 load and only fitting 8 or 9. Fall short by one piece and you're either running an extra loop or just earning less.
💬 My take: my first draft of the yellow-gear article said bartering players shouldn't build Falasi — I later found the official loading-capacity table I'd missed and corrected it. My view now: Falasi isn't for Advance. It's what turns Volante into a real bartering ship. If you've already got an Advance earning money, stockpiling materials for a second ship — Volante + Falasi — is a reasonable long-term goal. If you don't even have a first ship yet, don't get pulled in by "Volante is fastest" — without yellow gear, Volante can't fit a full T7 load.
🏆 First ship: Advance. Second ship, if you want to barter actively: Volante + Falasi. Escape clause: just want to AFK and don't care about loops per day → one Advance, all the way. This patch already saved you the disembark time.
6. Five Habits to Break After This Patch
- Jumping off at every stop — you don't need to. Stopped near a Wharf Manager, quests, shops, repairs, sailors, and cargo all get handled from the ship.
- Running to a storage NPC before selling — the Load Cargo menu can sell storage items directly now, just remember to move trade goods into storage or your inventory first.
- Opening the world map to find the nearest port — the Barter Information window has a Nearby Town/Wharf button now.
- Eyeballing distances — check the distance markers in Barter Information, or use the sort-by-distance option that was already there.
- Trusting your old weight numbers — the loading screen's weight display had a bug before 9/23; recalculate your empty weight.
Common Misconceptions
- "This patch makes bartering earn more" — no. Parley, trade-good prices, and loading caps are all unchanged. It saves time, and whether that time turns into silver depends on whether disembarking was actually your bottleneck.
- "Every wharf function works from the ship now" — storing your ship, remote retrieval, and pure conversation still need you to get off.
- "Volante is fastest, so just build Volante" — without yellow gear, Volante can't fit a full T7 load. Volante is a post-yellow-gear path.
- "Balance is the sensible middle ground" — the community consensus now is that it's neither: less capacity than Advance, slower than yellow-gear Volante.
FAQ
Q: Did NA/EU get this patch on the same day as other regions? Yes, this time everyone lined up — September 23 (Wednesday) worldwide.
Q: How close do you need to be for remote wharf functions to kick in? The patch notes just say "near the Wharf Manager on each island" — no exact distance given.
Q: Did the barter fixes from the test server (overweight false-positives when weight exactly equals capacity, and a Dallaenaru trade-goods refresh chain breaking) make it live? Yes — confirmed. Korea's official September 16, 2026 update notice lists both fixes by name. I'm retracting what I said earlier about not finding them in the Taiwan-server notes for 9/10, 9/17, or 9/23 — those pages kept coming back blank or blocked when I checked them, and I wrongly read that as "not there" instead of "couldn't load." Taiwan usually gets the same patch batch as Korea within a day or two, so there's no real reason to think these two fixes skipped it — I just couldn't verify the Taiwan-specific page directly.
Q: How long does one full refresh cycle actually take? The only complete first-hand account is the pre-patch numbers from one international-server player: averaging 6.5–7 hours, as fast as under 2 hours on a good run. It should be a bit faster post-patch, but nobody's published tested numbers yet.
Q: How much does yellow gear actually cost? Official numbers: each piece needs a 5-billion-silver permit, 20 Sunset Coral Essence (for 10 blueprints), one +10 Chiro piece, plus crafting materials; a +10 piece on the Central Market runs 166–242 billion.
